Elementary school applications

Students are studying abroad at younger ages as more and more parents choose to give their children a western education from an early age and to let them develop like locals in the culture. With elementary school applications, it is most important to pay attention to the application dates and to choose the right school.

Canadian elementary schools generally open for applications earlier than high schools. Top ranked schools are highly competitive even for local students, so anyone who misses the opening hours of the application period will lose their chance to enroll.

Choosing the right school is about choosing the type of school rather than a specific school. Canadian schools are divided into public and private schools. Private schools tend to be higher quality than public schools. Also, public schools prioritize local students, and especially for first year international students, who lack any Canadian achievements tend to rank last when consider for admission. In such cases, private schools are a better choice.

Secondary school applications

The popularity in recent years of studying abroad during high school has made it a study abroad option that is familiar to everyone. Canadian high schools (a.k.a secondary schools) give more attention towards cultivating students’ interests and provide various elective courses that give students sufficient space and opportunities to explore and expand their developmental direction. These opportunities play an important role in a student’s future plans for university and in life.

In addition to application deadlines and choice of school, language ability is an important part of a high school application. Though high schools do not require the applicant to report language test scores, the entrance test will determine whether students can directly enter the secondary school curriculum.

University applications

College life is a brand new chapter for any student. A good university and a good major can massively change one’s life. Besides excellent grades, universities also look at the high school student’s personal abilities, such as personal hobbies, artistic talents, volunteer experience, and even work experience. For local high school students, volunteer time is a graduation requirement. Some of these university application standards also apply to international students.

An excellent personal statement is also highly influential. The personal statement not only reflects the applicant’s language ability, but also gives the university a better understanding of the student. When judging between applicants with similar grades, the personal statement becomes a comparative standard.

For art school applicants, a well-prepared portfolio can make a student stand out among the numerous other applicants. As portfolios are an important application component, art students should prepare works for different art portfolios in advance.
