Brake Through Language Barrier
In Canada's education system, ESL courses are the biggest headache for international students. Although there is no need to provide language scores when entering public high schools in Canada, students will be required to take exams and study in corresponding ESL classes upon arrival. In many ways, the normal educational course begins after successfully passing the ESL course.
ESL stands for ‘English as a Second Language.’ This course is designed for foreign students whose mother tongue is not English to improve their comprehensive English ability. Through ESL courses, international students can improve their English abilities in skills, including listening, speaking, and reading and writing, and absorb and understand the English-speaking country’s local culture. The ESL course is suitable for any non-native English speakers who want to improve their English ability. After successfully completing an ESL course, non-native English speakers can confidently enter formal, regular-stream courses.
Therefore, language test scores directly affect a student’s progress through professional courses. If their language test results are not adequate, students will be deeply immersed in ESL learning for the next year, with the possibility of extending that time to two or even three years.
To mitigate such difficulties, foreign students should plan as soon as possible. The sooner students start studying abroad, the faster they can master the language. The language requirements for young foreign students are relatively looser. And after successfully completing four years of secondary school, students can apply to their favorite university without worrying about language requirements, which saves time and smoothly integrates their stages of study in Canada.
For foreign students with weak language foundation, language training program is the best option. In a purely English-speaking environment, students can better cultivate their sense of the English language and rapidly improve their non-standard accent.
